I have been seeing it posted all over my newsfeed on Facebook. It has been on the local newspapers. People feel when they read something online with a headline it must be true, such as the headline that Pakistani men are the best looking in the world when in actuality the list was made by an escort dating site and the only Pakistani which made the list was Zayn Malik because he is a well known celebrity. It doesn't actually mean that people anywhere in the world really ranked Pakistan so high. But that didn't stop my friends from bragging and high profile newspapers from running articles posting pictures of other local celebrities they considered good looking.
So imagine my surprise when I saw Islamabad was the second most beautiful capital in the world. Like seriously? It's from a website that lists anything anyone can submit. I can submit a list ranking cities as the ugliest capitals of the world with Islamabad as number one and it might get approved. A quick google search shows many lists of beautiful capitals and Islamabad isn't even ranked on any number on those lists.
Just because something gets shared a million times online and then idiots at newspapers run with it doesn't make it true. The source has to be looked at. It just goes to show how gullible the online world is and how we are quick to forward things we WANT to believe! People all over fail to realize theonion is a satire website yet it's so professionally done people believe it.
We can forgive those who have no common sense but when a civic agency runs with it using public money we know things aren't looking well!
If you are looking for some sort of reliability it's best done by an organization with votes. For example Islamabad was also ranked the second least friendly city in the world. Even CNN ran with that one ! However I don't see my friends sending that viral over Facebook when it's a more reliable posting ;)
