So after much cost, delays, suffering and fanfare, the metrobus finally opened in Islamabad. I would have to admit that initially thought it would spoil the look of the city, but if anything it has given the city a better image. The amazing thing about the metrobus unlike a regular subway system, is that one comes along every few minutes, so there is no time schedule to sit around and wait for and plan.
I would however suggest that they increase the timings to at least midnight, if not make it 24 hours with a reduced number of buses plying on the route at late nights, as the twin cities have become a booming metropolis and there is always some activity going on at all parts of the day like most cities.
The other drawbacks is that it does not connect to the other parts of the city, i.e. F10/F11/G10/E11. Special buses should run back and forth from each respective markaz to each metrobus station. It has been announced but we await that day. Only then will the system truly lower the number of vehicles on the road.
There are also no parking lots or taxi stands at each metrobus station. This would also help a lot.
Verdict: Good long overdue solution to the problems of many citizens, although at such an enormous overblown cost to which they are now trying to tax any and everything across the country!
